Madekwe was born South London, England into a mixed family. Her father is Nigerian and Swiss, while her mom is English. Her family was raised on a south London council estate, and went to The Brit School at age fourteen. She was a student at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London which she graduated with an acting BA. While attending the school, she appeared in numerous stage productions including the King Henry V as Princess Katherine and Wuthering Heights as Catherine Earnshaw.
Madekwe's acting career started in the series Storm Damage. She has appeared as guest on Teachers Doctors Casualty Drop Dead Gorgeous. Madekwe scored her first motion picture role in the Woody Allen film Cassandra's Dream, opposite Colin Farrell and Ewan McGregor. The film's success resulted in her being cast as Elisha in a single-off BBC Three drama West 10 LDN pilot. Later, she appeared in the six-episode series Trexx & Flipside playing the character of Ollie. Also, the ITV2 drama Secret Diary of a Call Girl featured her in 2008 playing Bambi. Madekwe starred as the lead character in How to Lose Friends And Alienate Others, a comedy made in 2008. Her stage credits are Little Sweet Thing or Roy Williams and Flight Path of David Watson.
Madekwe was cast as Ashley Davenport in ABC's show The Beautiful Life. The two-episode series aired for just 2 weeks at The CW and then it was cancelled. Ashley Davenport was her role in ABC's drama Revenge. Madekwe starred as a regular character on the ABC drama series Revenge in two episodes. It was revealed in May 2013 that she'd quit the show after completing one guest appearance on the first series of the 3rd. From 2014-2016, Madekwe starred as Tituba on the show Salem. Her long-time friend, Iddo, married Madekwe in June of 2012. They've collaborated on Secret Diary of a Call Girl and also had a role alongside her in the television series Salem.

Ashley Leggat was born in Hamilton, Ontario, into a large, extended family. Four of her older brothers were also in the family and included twins Todd and Bram, Brett & Rob. The brothers of Ashley were extremely athletic and played baseball and hockey during the summer and winter. They grew up playing the arenas and baseball. Ashley didn't walk, instead she danced. In the age of two and half, she found Baby Ballet. It was then that she discovered Ashley's interest in dance. Ashley performed in competitive tap, jazz and ballet in high divisions. She was the top soloist in big competitions, such as International Dance Challenge, Showstoppers, 56-7-8 Showtime, Flash Dance, Dance, Dance, Dance, were all awarded to Ashley.
